Hey folks. Not a whole lot of Post Oak or Apple out here in SE Asia. Am thinking about using Mango or Eucalyptis for smoking protiens. Any thoughts folks? They are a Hardwood after all.
I have a mature mulberry tree (in addition to mango) and I've used the trimmings over the years in my fire pit but recently I had to trim it back radically due to a large broken branch.
Initially I thought I'd easily have a free cord of firepit wood but I read that it's a very good wood for...
...in our yard. It was perfectly healthy, just something that unfortunately had to be done.
I've looked online to see if anybody has used mangowood for smoking but I haven't found much. I haven't found many people talking about how their food came out, it's mostly people saying they are going...
Got a couple nice logs of Mangowood from my brother. Cut them up and split them down. Need to season for a while. I am looking forward to smoking something with this wood!! Made about a 50-60lb box.
Try this search link. Not a lot of info but some. I would not hesitate to try it.

I have a large mango tree in my yard. Not only is the bark reactive but so are the leaves and the wood. Ever taste an unripe mango? It taste like diesel fuel. I would not recommend using it to smoke in any form. There are many tropical trees that can cause a skin reaction.
The taste is mild to me but as I said I only use it sparingly. My primary wood I smoke with is Kiawe wood here in Hawaii. I get it cheap compared to buying bags from Home depot or Lowes. I would be interested to try a full smoke on Mango though.
There is nothing like a proper Bloody Mary, old school, IMHO. It should be a light cocktail, not a heavy, thick drink. I used to make tomato water bloody Mary's back when I grew a garden and had buckets of tomatoes during harvest. I would process tomatoes by blanching and shocking to remove the...
That's actually one of the things I saw when I looked it up before joining. The only two that actually mentioned using it were some international members and one guy from Hawaii said he was getting some but nobody really mentioned any first-hand experience with it. I actually do know one person...
...tree today (Java Plum) to make our driveway. Unfortunately, I currently have no way to store until the house is built. I understand that Mangowood is not suitable for smokers, so I’m a bit hesitant to just use any fruit wood. Can Waa be used? Read that Java Plum (Waa) is an invasive species...
That’s interesting you say that- because we’ve heard really mixed things on that. Some people say it’s great, others say it’s completely unsuitable for smoking. We’d love to try it — what meats does the bbq place cook with it? Everything typical or anything particularly unique?
Thanks for the info. Ive tried walkers once, didn't really do it for me. My jerk recipe is pretty simple. For 2-2.5lbs meat (chicken quarters, b/s thighs, porkchops, flanksteak, etc) I use:
1/2 medium-large yellow onion
4-6 green onions
3+tbsp thyme
2tbsp ginger
8 garlic cloves
2-3tbsp soy sauce...
Just sharing future scales.....
This is palm, if you cut it at and angle it looks like fish scales, it has to be stabilized but is unique!
This is spalted timarind (full respirator stuff till stabilized and finished). Off the chart cool! It will polish glass glossy....
Mango...just not...
Thanks Keith, I will send you a PM.
Thanks David! I do make the sheath’s myself. I would do leather but sourcing materials is harder. I’ve done leather work and may do some leather in the future...
Yes I’m excited to do more patterned steel as it is a one of a kind piece. Just very rewarding...
...Mahogany and Coffee. Supply can vary depending on your location but these are the usual ones you can get in Metro Manila. Yes, Mangowood has its disavantages mainly because you can not risk it if you are cooking for other people or commercially but there has been success stories of it and...
...living in the Philippines, wanting to learn the art of smoking and what Asian woods to use. I live up in the mountains, there is plenty of mangowood available. But looking online they says that it's toxic and should not be used for any type of cooking. I wondered which other wood you have...
