Oh oh. I didn't think ppl saw my post about 2 to 3 yrs ago, on the salt curing I did on a yellow fin loin then cold smoked it.. All I had was a Presto brand indoor smoker... yum yum and ok
Thanks everyone for the feedback and insight. I didn't think I would but I am definitely leaning towards the WSM 22.5" and OKJoe in second. I'll have to order it but it will only take a week to come in and I'm in no rush. Its $439 for the WSM but if I get the OKJoe and put all the worthwhile...
I like it. I was never able to get my electric hot enough to give bite through skin on chicken. That was no problem with this one. However I am going to have to work on my fire control techniques and maybe look into some mods. I can’t blame the heat issue on the smoker just yet. All in all my...
Hey Guys,
Brand new to the forums here. I recently bought a house and to celebrate, I'm looking to buy a smoker/grill. I'm not totally new to barbecue-- I've used a cheap 'handmedown' electric smoker in the past, and actually used to work as Meat Carver (cool title that basically means I can...
Sorry to hear about your friend's problems (why isn't he posting here asking for advice - the combined knowledge of the pellet masters here must be way above the whole okjoe team).
Like someone else said above: My exoerience with okjoe products is not half bad. Got their reverse flow smoker...
Oorah Brother!! You know, the easiest way to bbq is by using a pellet grill IMO. My pellet grill functions as both a pellet grill and a stick burner at the same time with the mods I’ve done to it, so I have the best of both worlds... Depending on your budget, you have a lot of options out...
Thank you all for your assistance! I have since pumped out some delicious foods and am enthralled with offset cooking. The flavour I am finding is superior to my water smoker and easier to set up and get going, though my water smoker was much easier to maintain once it was all set up (simply...
I’ve actually seen the OKJoe DLX on display and upon inspection, the sear chamber section of the grill is unique in its design and it also covers a large portion in the center of the grill. The sear chamber section and the sear chamber plate is also serving as your grills Heat Diffuser... The...
Hi all, I have seasoned and done a couple dry runs on m OKJoe Highland. RTV mods worked well, still need CC gasket it seems.
I also used a hack to raise the charcoal grate, see pics attached. Someday down the road I may get a firebox basket, tuning plates etc...
I have two Thermoworks air/grate...
So I really want to get my first offset smoker, but due to certain issues there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of options available to me. As much as I would prefer an Old Country Pecos or a more high end smoker with thicker metal and better build quality like a Kat, Lonestar Grill, or a Lang...
I saw one the other day and for the price of $650.00, Oklahoma Joe is offering a pretty nice pellet grill for that price. It has a very unique searing and smoking set up and over 1200 cubic inches of cooking space. The grill does have more moving parts then the average pellet grill, so care...
The frustration for me is that I like my MB grill and really do not want to spend time with mods to keep it on line. Therefore, I'm with you in hoping that MB will fix the problems because overall I really like the grill.
In regards to the paint chips, are you sure it's not creosote as others...
Hello – very new, hoping to get some guidance from the pros here.
So I took the plunge and purchased an Oklahoma Joe Highlander. By “plunge”, I mean I am a pretty inexperienced griller- barely use a gas grill appropriately. Can eke out some burgers but that’s about it.
So why did I do it? I...
That's some great looking pork! I have the same smoker and did the same mods including the same convection plate and that OKJoe puts out some really good bbq. Nice job!!
I have had the OKJoe Highland now for 3 years and only mods I did was seal the FB and add the convection baffle plate. The smoker does a really good job at producing some pretty good que, have not received any complaints!
So things just got interesting. I heard back from Old Country BBQ Pits who manufactures the Pecos. There's good news and there's bad news. The good news is that they can sell me a Pecos directly and the price is the same, $400. The bad news is it would also cost another $400 for them to ship it...
Hello all. I am looking to add an additional rack to my highland reverse flow smoker and I saw this item but cannot find out if it will fit my smoker. Had anyone used this before...
I purchased an Oklahoma Joe offset smoker. After cooking in it a few times I have found that controlling the temperature on a long smoke is very troublesome. I have done some mods to the smoker. I added gaskets, made a baffle for it, and added a charcoal basket. I can keep a constant...
The easiest heat management I've found is to put only 5 or 6 lit coals into an basket of unlit. Wood under the coals or in the basket is fine. As the unit comes up to 170-180f I close down one inlet completely and the other most of the way. You may also have to close down the exhaust. Anyways...
did you notice that it takes more fire in the FB to keep a temp with the baffle/tuning plates put in? I ordered mine and hoping it gets delivered before the weekend?
I guess it could be that it just takes a bit longer to get to temp.
