I know there is some threads on the food saver. If you only do a little at a time the Ziploc hand vac might be the way to go. I love mine and i can wash it, dont have to worry about the pump, one less item to store and plug in. If you do big prduction then the actual machine might be best. This Ziploc setup is cheap and works really well.

I saw this item @ the store the other day and wondered how well it worked. thanks for the post and info on it.

That's what I use. It works pretty well most of the time. Sometimes I'll pull something out of the freezer and see that the seal let loose. But it's handy and for me, the storage is key. And I can pick them up at the grocery store.

Besides the seal breaking sometimes the actual pumping can be a PITA if you're doing quite a bit of stuff.

My search for Ziploc Vacuum Seal turned up zilch - must be holding my mouth wrong. I'm currently trolling EBay for a Foodsaver but the way it's been going it's probably not in the cards this time.

The Ziploc a grocery store item?

I was checking them out this weekend @ SUper Wal Mart, got some gallon size freezer bags instead this time.

The Reynolds vacuum bags had a hit or miss result. Some held a vacuum and others did not. Before buying the Ziplock device and bags I would sure like to know how they perform over time.

If you Google up Ziplock vacuum sealer coupons you can get the start-up kit for about $4 so it won't hurt as bad if in fact you don't like it.

Reynolds has discontinued their line of Vac-seal products.

The Reynolds handi-vac I have works perfect! I have never had a bad lose vacuum and I re-use my bags after cleaning. I think it is a great system. I was able to find a great deal on gallon size bags and must have 25-30 items vacuum sealed in the freezer - highly recommended.

Yeah I know the Reynolds system is discontinued. I had about 70-80% success with my bags. Others who have posted on other boards about it had worse. I don't know anyone who's had 100% success. Hope they hold for ya.

I really liked the concept of a hand vac over the large appliance. I just don't need another appliance. I've noticed Foodsaver has their own hand held device.
