Has anyone noticed the amount of new members in the last month? Must be cabin fever, no one ventures out to smoke so the daydream and run across this site. It's great I think. Welcome to everyone.

Also a lot of people got new smokers for Christmas...

not sure if thats the reason, myself, and I think many others here smoke no matter what, rain, snow, sleet, etc. I smoked twice last weekend in temps that were in the 20's and snowy, and will do 2 smokes this weekend when it will be colder.

I do agree, it is good to have new members joining up .

I think the word is just getting out there what a great place this is. I have told several folks to check out this forum that were looking for a recipe and I am sure that others must be doing the same. More folks more great ideas

Well, as one of those December Newbies, for my own part, you were discovered by my too frequent (so SWMBO says anyway) use of Google, while searching for.... Heck, I've forgotten now, but be assured, it was Smoking related. A couple of days lurking and then I jumped in with both feet. Called a few close friends in my Diesel Truck group, and then, well there you go, three or four more due to word of mouth. My SIL is lurking, he's going to get lost in the smoke if he doesn't get with it and standup and be counted.

It's a real friendly place on this site and I hope to be able to give back as much as I've received. We call that "paying it forward".

I confess, as a new member I have been singing the praises of the site....I am guessing I have lead a few here. It's a great community, and reference site all in one

Yep I am one of the December newbies that Dave helped find this site.
I have been smoking a lot of salmon and bugging Dave for his smoked boneless chicken thighs recipe

He told me about this place and now I am on a mission to build a couple large wood smokers. I have a tendancy to get carried away with almost everything I do.

Years ago I went to a sled pull with a buddy and ended up building a pulling truck (daily driver) and now I own a 10 second diesel drag truck.

I am sure I will have a couple BIG (I seem to go overboard on things) smokers built in the near future. This is an awesome site and has a lot of great people happy to help and willing to give a guy info!!!!!!!!!

Same here.. I was surfing around trying to find out how to make spare ribs palatable. I ran across this forum.. wala

I'm with everyone else. The more we have here the more experience and knowledge we get to pull from! Welcome all new members!

We should get referral bonuses.

I've had at least one of my friends that I know of sign up after he got his new MES via me on Black Friday. He's not been posting but he does read this site a lot to learn and get ideas. There are a few others I suspect signed up but haven't told me yet.

I have noticed a new wave lately... I think I spend more time replying to roll call than anything else. Always feel good about welcoming someone to a great hobby.

My wife thinks I'm a geek for belonging to a forum dedicated to smoking meat..oh well, I may be a geek but I'm a geek who knows how to smoke a brisket..

The first thing I noticed when I got here was how nice everyone was, even when I asked dumb questions. A lot of other sites out there aren't so kind to noobs..that helps.

Well, being one of the old timers here (since 2005), what you are seeing is a yearly occurrence for the reasons already listed:
  1. Cabin fever
  2. New folks that got new smokers
  3. Folks that have been smoking for a while using Google to find answers or ideas
Some of these folks will take to SMF like a duck to water and plan to stick around; while others will find an answer to their questions and never visit us again; others willl get discouraged while trying to figure out their smoker and quit altogether; and some will think that we are all daft for smoking in less than ideal conditions and escape for fear of becoming one of "US".

As a certified lurker before and after joining ( for the most part ) I have to say that anyone who sticks around is one smart cookie!

I visit almost every day, and every day I feel that I pick up a little something or I find a new idea. Lots of the ideas are shot down by the wife, but she sure does love how much better my meat is now.

I decided to try to keep up with salutations to the new ones. But did not have time Sorry! Have you seen Cowgirls Apple Dumplings MMMM!!!! Man I come here for five minutes and I'm off to the smoker for something new. Chefrob your chilaquiles are one of the greatest with the pulled pork MMMM!!!! Looking forward to sharing the New Year with all the smokers. Dutch you got me I am now one of US. Happy New Year To All.
