i thought, this money being collected was supposed to stop this stuff.....OR move to another server.

i know.............WD starting crap again............but geez........looks like i am the only one, willing to take the hit...........

Hey, servers and desktops alike both need rebooted from time to time. No need to gripe about it on the forum. I am sure that you can get double your money back if you aren't satisfied!

I've experienced the same thing Trav and Dude have expressed. It's awesome to see this site grow as fast as it is, just a bit frustrating when you're trying to share q and thread with people that are truely interested in hearing about them!

Still love SMF!

Maybe more would be willing to pay the 15# or advertise if it didnt happen so often

i agree aj...........but i have payed.........so i take it you are going to give me double my money back?

plus....i would think the server would give a heads up.....

my friends, it's a nice sunny day, and the forum is down, here's an Idea for you, get a life. walk away from the computer. take the dog out. kiss you wife and kids, have a beer and watch the tv..... come back in an hour and see if it's back, if not ,hell have another beer.

notice: there is life beyond this great little forum, I messaged Jeff and asked him if it was my compouter or the forum, now I feel like an idiot for bothering him, it is what it is and itll be back or it wont, go smoke something and tell us about it latter lol

o.k. I feel better now

thanks Jeff I love this site

Its not a big deal........All growing sites have this same problem..............Look at it this way they got it back up and going again with in a few hours......It could have been days........

I guess everyone has noticed that this always happens on Sunday when EVERYONE is in here

WD, if you want your money back just speak the word. I have upgraded multiple times and will continue to do so as it is required.

Luckily, we are linked up with a service that checks every few minutes and emails me if it detects a problem.

Our hosting company is recommending that we reboot the servers several times each week for best results. I am looking to see if we can automate this say at 3 AM or something so it affects the least amount of folks.

At any rate.. thanks for all of the SUPPORTIVE comments. WD.. take notes

Jeff, there are somethings we cant help and this is one. As long as we have to use these computers things like this is going to happen. Thanks for all you do. You are doing a great job...

When we build custom PC based security camera DVR's we build in a watchdog for emails from our server and reboot every 24 hours at 3 AM. Ooops..I guess I'd get booted, but Oh Well... :{)

WD, the server can't notify you that it crashed if it has already crashed.

As someone who responsible for about 10 servers that need to run all of the time, I can tell you that it is just the nature of computers, as AJ said.

All in all, you can't beat the price/value ration for SMF!! Keep up the great work, Jeff.

FWIW - I am a member of another forum that had so many crashes they had to go to 100% 'pay for access' approach during peak usage times (March during basketball playoffs) as their spike in server traffic was WAY too much. With 8000+ members (that one has 7000 with 1500 'active') I am very surprised Jeff has been able to keep it as free and open as he has. I already paid and might chip in a tip or two every so often.
