Hi all,
I had a couple questions as I'm new to smoking.
I want to build a vertical smoker made out of wood. I want this to be able to reach a a temp of 220 to smoke pork ribs mainly. I was thinking about using a cast iron propane burner.
Now the dimensions would roughly be 3-3 1/2 foot tall, 1-1 1/2 foot wide, and 1 1/2 foot deep.
My thought would to use ceramic tiles on the bottom where the propane burner would be and then make two separate Chambers. One for the burner (it would have an opening in the front for air intake) and the top chamber for the smoke, food, water pan, and grease catcher.
Not sure if to line the top chamber with a metal to possibly help with making sure it can get hot enough.
Any feedback?
Also, what type of wood should I use?
What type of metal if needed?
Thanks everybody, feedback is helpful!
I attached a very crude picture with how I thought it might look.

See my smokehouse build:

I believe it would be better to set your MAX Target Temp to at least 250°, instead of 220°.
However 300° would be even better.

what meats are best to be cooked in a wooden smoker.? Can chicken be cooked low and slow.?

A Wooden Pig?? Wooden Chicken?? Don't see many Wooden Cows?

Just Kidding---Couldn't help myself.

Yes, Chicken can be cooked Low & Slow, as long as you get it to 165° Internal Temp.
If the skin is on it, you should finish it with a Smoker Temp of 275° or more to get decent skin.
