about a 1/2 inch to 1 inch around the bark of my oak wood is starting to rot, is that wood okay to smoke with?

will that leave a bad taste in the food? or will it just burn faster. when i got this wood, i got a truck load. i guess thats too much to get at 

one time, or i need to smoke food a lot more.

I would burn it in the fire place and get some more for my meat.
