Good afternoon everyone, and happy smoking!

I am just grilling some burgers this afternoon, but I am planning my next smoke.

Today's question:  I have a Black Walnut tree in my back yard that desperately needed to be trimmed.  I have a few branches six inches thick, and many that are thinner.  I am assuming that walnut, as a hardwood, would work nicely in my smoker.  How long should I let it season?  I plan to cut it into pieces that will fit in my firebox and stack it out behind the shed until it is dry enough to split and burn.

A related question:  Is Red Maple usable for smoking?

Thanks for the help.

Edited to add:  I had not explored the site well enough to find the wood for smoker section.  I found my answer, thanks
