Hi, new to group and to smoking.
I have a discontinued brinkman, the wood chip box has 2 sections, 1 with holes on side and top the other only top, is that for water, but there is also a water pan? also want to smoke clams, best wood?
Attached is picture of box
Thank you

Hello from RI.

Smoked clams.Unless you're shucking them not much point in smoking them.If you're shucking then ya you can certainly get some smoke flavor on them.Type of wood is really up to you and how strong a flavor you want,I'd start with a fruitwood like apple and see if you like it and go from there.Don't overcook them which easy to do out of the shell.I generally do them over indirect heat on my gas grill with a smoke tube.
