I got my first AMNPS 2 months after the MES and never bothered trying chunks or used chips ever again. There are some old posts of guys splitting them into 1" pieces and having some success but the masses are not jumping on the bandwagon so must not be anything to write home about...JJ

I tired one time roughly 1' diameter x 2" long pecan chuck with a few chips around to get it started. Added chips, removed chips and other tricks but it never go hot enough to get anything burning. My theory is that the pecan chuck absorbed so much heat nothing would start smoldering. Now use the Amazn Tube Smoker and quite happy. Intend to try putting small pecan chunks with pellets in it. I have a pecan orchard so have lots to work with.

Thanks guys. Unfortunately you're just confirming what I had heard.
