Cruising Craigslist and a local guy has 100lbs of mesquite splits he brought up from Texas. He wants $1.50 a lb! So $150 for the lot. Yikes! I can get half cord of red oak for that!

I am considering making him a offer as I have never had the chance to cook with mesquite before other than the stale bagged chunks you buy at Home depot or something. I have never got any flavor from those chunks. Wood does go stale.

Anyhow I don't want to insult the guy with a low ball offer (I was thinking like $50 for the lot) but I really would like to give some a try.

Hey you'll never know unless you make him an offer. He must have been in Texas for a vacation or something, cause he sure wouldn't make any money hauling wood up from there unless he had a semi full.

IMHO you should take your $150 and buy the oak, mesquite smoke tastes like a dirty sock to me.
