Need some help finding someone who knows wild mushrooms
Are these safe to eat
Is there any way to tell if they are safe?

Not much help here. My state conservation dept has a booklet on shrooms of Missouri . I only mess with ones they state as "No Poisonous Look-A-Likes".
Those look to be what they refer to as LBM's (Little Brown Mushrooms). There are hundreds of Varieties of them and many are poisonous. They explain how to do a spore test, but i'm not sure even that is 100% accurate.
In your case I would follow the old adage " when in doubt, throw it out"

Hard to say without seeing the underside and stem but it looks similar to some jack-o'-lantern mushroom varieties which are usually inedible. Could also try Google Lens.

Compare with ringless honey mushrooms (Armillaria tabescens). I can't say for sure from the photos though. I'm assuming they're growing on a root system of a mature tree and that they came up fairly quickly and that they're kinda rubbery. That's what they looked like in my yard.

They're edible, but they have to be parboiled first. Google it. Some people love them, but some people get an upset stomach from them. When consuming any wild mushrooms for the first time, proceed in small portions at first since it's foreign to your digestive system.

It's best to be 100% positive though. I used a field guide to identify mushrooms for 10 years before I ever cooked and ate any wild mushrooms. That said, I had some wonderful wild cinnabar chantarelles the last time we went camping. But my wife insisted that I was positive about the identification before she let me eat them. They were delicious.

When we were kids, every year Our Dad used to take us to a big farm with a lot of short grass pasture. I was the youngest of the 3 oldest Kids, and we each had a cardboard box, and we picked all the white topped, pink underneath wild mushrooms we could find. Then after a few hours, we'd jump in the back of the truck & Dad would take us home.
Then he'd spend quite awhile sorting them out & throwing the poison ones out.
I wish I would have picked his brain, because I Love Mushrooms, and I have never eaten one near as good as those wild ones. After sautéing them in butter, they just melted in my mouth!!!
Our Dad was raised by our Great-Grandfather, because his parents couldn't afford to raise him, so he earned his keep by working on the farm. That's where he learned which Mushrooms were safe to eat.

Eating wild mushrooms without being trained by reputable professional is risky business.
