Is there a noticeable difference between big box store chunks and the online/local wood? Is the price difference worth it?
Mind sharing the seller(s)?Dunno about Canada, but I've had good results buying wood chunks from trees not locally available to me from sellers on eBay. Shagbark hickory, wild cherry, and even some pistachio tree wood (from California). You might look into that option.
I buy mine from Fuita Wood. It’s not that more expensive than the plastic bags at box stores and is high quality wood. Buying local not an option here as we live next to a state park and everyone around here sells wood as “campfire wood”.
Thankfully I'm in the USA so that won't be a problem at all!No, but keep in mind all the ones I've purchased from are in the USA. You mght have difficulties shipping to Canada, but I'm sure you can run those details yourself.
I use the stuff from the orange box store when on the kamado. have found some local hickory splits if feeding the offset. Also bought a tube thingy as much disdain as i have for pellets. Is there a difference between the cheap bags at the big box stores and chunks from a farm or similar?
If so, where do you guys get your chunks from?
Ah, your username made me think Canada!Thankfully I'm in the USA so that won't be a problem at all!
"There is nothing special about wood that you buy in a store for smoking, other than someone else did the cutting"I guess I am lucky. I live in NC and there are old pecan and oak trees everywhere that I use for my fireplace and wood for my smokers. Even if you live in the city there must be fruit or hardwood trees that are being cut down somewhere in your area. Better yet, someone that will pay you to trim them or cut them down. There is nothing special about wood that you buy in a store for smoking, other than someone else did the cutting.
