Where do you guys get your wood chunks from?

I buy mine from Fuita Wood. It’s not that more expensive than the plastic bags at box stores and is high quality wood. Buying local not an option here as we live next to a state park and everyone around here sells wood as “campfire wood”.

I buy local when I can. Have a local gentleman that sells fireplace wood, and offers smoking chunks as well. The wife bought me a couple big wheelbarrows full a year or three ago, and with as little as I smoke right now, it will last me quite a while. Also have a peach tree out back, and have a some trimmings from it I'm using. If I needed more than oak and peach, I have a local Ace that carries the big bags.

Picked this up for $40 this morning. Seen this tank on way. This just a piece of it. I really need to get me a 2 piece rod to keep with me!

I've bought bags of wood chunks from Weber (via Amazon) in the past. Not bad, but not great.
Switched to Fruita Wood. It's a bit pricey, but it has always been excellent, and I'm able to get Peach and Post Oak.

Well crap. Can't find replacement bag. It is 1 3/4 which not made anymore.

Just going to order the bigger bag. If nothing else a zip tie might work.

Dunno about Canada, but I've had good results buying wood chunks from trees not locally available to me from sellers on eBay. Shagbark hickory, wild cherry, and even some pistachio tree wood (from California). You might look into that option.

Mind sharing the seller(s)?

No, but keep in mind all the ones I've purchased from are in the USA. You mght have difficulties shipping to Canada, but I'm sure you can run those details yourself.

Might be worth talking to the State Park. One of my brothers lives in Virginia and can get a permit from the Va. State Park to pick up deadfall.

Is there a difference between the cheap bags at the big box stores and chunks from a farm or similar?

If so, where do you guys get your chunks from?
I use the stuff from the orange box store when on the kamado. have found some local hickory splits if feeding the offset. Also bought a tube thingy as much disdain as i have for pellets.

I have all the oak, hickory and apple that I could ever want.

Spring yard cleanup is when I collect it.

I did by a bag of chunks once from Walmart. to me there was no difference in that and what i pick up from the yard.

I guess I am lucky. I live in NC and there are old pecan and oak trees everywhere that I use for my fireplace and wood for my smokers. Even if you live in the city there must be fruit or hardwood trees that are being cut down somewhere in your area. Better yet, someone that will pay you to trim them or cut them down. There is nothing special about wood that you buy in a store for smoking, other than someone else did the cutting.
