hey I was just wondering how you are given points, are they given by other members, or are they given by moderators. How are you moved up in rank? is that given by members or moderators. how long do you have to be a member of the site before you can become a member on the otbs

Points are given by other members.....in the upper right corner of the posts, you'll see some "scales".....click on those in a post by someone you want to give points to. You also gain rank by how many posts you have made.....this link explains the "ranking" system that's set up on the forum.

You can only give out points twice per day. Then you will get a gentle reminder that you have given out your quota for the day and you will have to wait 24 hours to give out more. Also you cannot give points to the same person twice in a row.

I give points for something a member has done on here that is out of the box. Or is a post that is quite helpful to new members. I am stingy with my points and believe a person should earn them. If a person for example posts a Thread with a long difficult build with plenty of Q view and has taken obvious care to record it with pictures so we all can see how he did it, then it deserves points. Sometimes people create something so unique that none of us have seen the like before on here or anywhere else. It gets points.

The OTBS is for the few deserving members who have been here 9 months or more and have shown to us that they have earned the honour. Generally speaking they are the people who greeted you when you first posted in Roll Call. The people who answered any questions you might have had along the way. They have demonstrated a knowlege of smoking meat and posted qview of their successes and even their failures along the way. Some of the many recipes shared with us came from some of them. They are the people who make this website tick in a good way, Who give it some zip from time to time. If you spot one of these people in the next few months and believe they have what it takes, You have the right to nominate that person for membership in the OTBS. If an OTBS member seconds your nomination, In all probability we will welcome another new Knight or Lady into the Order and the cycle will continue.

To me it's a way that I can show the other members that I think they are doing some good meals and nice smokes too. They and I like the idea for having the points.

Its basicaly broke since the site crashed.Regulars still give them like me.

It takes 100 points to get a solid green tile under your post count-after you get 5 solid green tiles it takes 200 to get a light green one...After 5 solid green tiles you start getting light green ones...

Depending on your amount of rep/points- you give more points....

If you have one solid green tile-everyone starts with this- you give 1 point if you give a rep point out.....Folks with more tiles can give you as much as 40 points etc... in your user cp....

Other then that its just a way to give out compliments to a job well done...
