I searched the forums quickly but did not find anything on this.

Since my addiction is growing the bags of chips that I bought is shrinking quickly. I bought them from all over and tried to get them on sale when I could.

Now I have learned that there is "right" way to store them.

What is a good source for quantanty of Chips? What is a good price?

Are there any places around Chicago so I can save on shipping?

Thanks

Free would be the best price (and no I'm not being a smart A$$). I have seen ads on Craig's list where they will offer a wheel barrow full of apple, cherry, pecan chips for free, if you come and pick them up. There is usually a bit of work involved to get them, but the price is right. You might do a scan of craig's list and see what is out there.

My $.02

Do they have to be chips? If you could use chunks just go to Homer tree service and get a trunk full of logs and cut them up.

I could give ya some cherry, oak and plum splits and logs if ya want.

I live down the street from the Homer Boys, Hard to get wood from them since they started grinding it. They mix it all up for a big contract they have. They are even mixing in old fences and pallets.

I use a smoke daddy knock off and use a combination of pellets and clean chips.

I hear the less bark the better, but really don't know, I have to split a bunch of oak for heating the shop this winter and was thinking of trying to run some clean stuff through a chipper of some sort.

I was just hoping that I may be able to find a source for 25 lb bags or so.

If you have a Menard's nearby they sell chips for $1.99-$2.99. Here in MN they have oak, apple, cherry, and hickory I think. They had them on sale for $.99-$1.99 a couple weeks ago and I bought enough to get through the winter. Not sure if they will carry them once the snow flies so I wanted to be sure to have enough to make Spring.
