I started working when I was 14 , but my second job was an Usher in a movie theater . Had to be 17 , so that was 1977 . $1.90 an hour plus 2 movie passes . Loved that job .
Like said , it set a standard and protection for the workers .
I started as a paperboy Rte, But sold stuff before that!
Garden seeds, Scouts and sports benefits sales door to door.
it got to the point I created a base , the neighbors would ask what are you peddling now ?
My 1st job was @ a small Marina, that rented rowboats for fishing and crabbing.
Had to be there @ 4:30 AM, City Folks were waiting when I opened up !
I was going to ride my bike to work,5 M. DAD said no way ! Too many drunks still out!
Dropped me off to work in his PJs.
Wage was $1/ hr !
We worked our Ass off too !e
Repairing and painting the wooden rowboats, until they slowly bought new aluminum boats.
$ was not much ? But it went far !
As a kid, you could blow $20 /wk and still have $ left!
Even later in high school ,with a car.
It was affordable!
Not even $100 /wk went far !
Fill the gas tank, go out to McDs a few times a week, Movies, and still have $ Left!
Yes!? $ went farther and as prices rose so did the paycheck slowly!
As My DAD said, there were not as many people here years ago? He was right !
Back growing up?
Politics were very distant. As a kid, did not know what it was ?
We kinda looked at it as what you chose?
Like a Ford or a Chevy Car, What you were brought up with ?
My only experience as a Kid was I sent out fliers for a local Candidate and never got paid as I was told by him !?
Point is: Wages were not Political!
Simple: want more $?
Get a better job, another job and cut back on spending !
Most do the exact opposite.
I will stop for now... LOL!
