I think im going for it anyways on Thursday, Turkey breast and smoked mac and cheese. Kinda hope the majority of the snow comes tomorrow.

It will be fine.
I'm about 50 miles straight north of you and I plan on doing a breast also. just got a new patio cover installed about 3 weeks ago and that will keep the snow off everything. I also have the insulated cover for my Woodwind SG, so the temps will be easy to keep under control. Not doing the mac & cheese though; just the turkey breast. Should be fun.

Ill be honest...sometimes i hate the snow. I hate to commute in the snow ...i hate scraping ice off the truck ....i hate having to wear a ton of clothes to stay warm in my deer stand... but....one thing i really enjoy is beeing out side smoking food in the snow. Its sooo quiet and peaceful. I like to have fires in the snow too. also no need for a beer cooler. That makes it nice too! Lol! Do the smoke and dont let it get to ya! Enjoy it for what it is.

I used to think that way when I was your age, but then I was married 14 years before you were born. And No---That wasn't before we had Snow!!:emoji_wink:

I love the snow! Snow blowing, snowboarding, driving in it. all good times. I think my smoking in it view is jaded because my 14" WSM had troubles in the cold.

The peace and quite of a deep snow is priceless. and the dogs go bananas in it which is fin to watch.

Too darn bad the weather has to act up on Turkey Day!
I can't wait to see some of the photo's of you all with smokers going in the snow!
Al
Coming soon!

oh man I need a covered place like that...someday.

the snow started later than forecasted, but is coming down pretty solid now...

I may try to rig a tarp or something... in a few hours i'll check the garage for options or just get wet...

I cleared the deck and grill last night. here is where we are at so far.

The forecast is 18" by friday. which we are stoked about.

-5 burrr! the Rec Tec should be fine, just thinking it would be easier if it wasnt soaked when Im done.

Ive got the cold weather cover on too and its only 32 F now. Splatched breast is brining and the mac and cheese is gonna be canadian bacon, pulled pork and green chilies. roughly half pound each of CB and PP and pound of green chilis (before drained). stoked on that!

I suggested beer in a previous post, might need something stronger, you’ll still get wet but after a few beverages you won’t care. Sounds like a good feast.
we have an assortment of fine Bourbon, wine and beer. I think we will make it through... bahahah Gotta have bevs while cookin.

Yesterday, I moved about 8 inches of snow; today, I moved 6 inches more. :emoji_disappointed:
When I finished today, I set the temp on my Woodwind SG at 325*F, fired up my smoke tube, and put my 7 pound turkey breast into the grill. Here is what it looked like after brining overnight and putting some butter and rub spices under the skin.

And this is my smoke tube.

Ready to cook. :emoji_sunglasses:

I basted the outside a couple of times during the cook and it took about 2 1/2 hours for the meat temp probes to reach 165*F. This is the finished product.

After cutting the meat off the bones and slicing one breast, it looked like this.

And here is a closeup of the juices coming out of the cut meat.

This is one of the best I'ver ever done, and I've done a few. The brinning and the rub contributed a bunch to the outcome. It was very moist and as tender as any I've ever eaten. The skin was crisp and delicious. Life was definitely good today.

Everything looks awesome. Glad the weather worked in your favor!

Many thanks guys! got lucky on the weather. Slaughthouse brine is my go to always - it was SO GOOD. Butter with rub under the skin helped a touch I am sure.

I brined 4 whole birds in slaughterhouse this year and they were killer. Seems you and I smoke poultry the same way...brined, spatched, butter and rub under the skin. Ill post the pics up later!
