Crazy Wind - 65-80 Mph tossing semi’s today….

We had a crazy wind storm hit today….. sustain 65 mph with 80 mph gusts (that reaches a cat 1 hurricane level). Both freeways were closed after 11 semis were tossed just south of us….at least 4 to the west…. We lost our RV gate….post just snapped we also lost a few shingles on the roof….I spent 3 hours putting down new shingles today as we have 9 days of rain forecasted…. It was a miserable deal one shingle at a time to keep them from flying…..masticing down each shingle edge to lock them in…..no chance in getting a roofer to come as roofs all over town have been peeled up and tossed…..I finished the last replacement under the headlamp in the dark…..and I thought my roofing days were long gone…..

These drivers don't trip plan, they don't check their forecasts between their origin and destination, and they don't ask the experienced drivers what weights are safe and not safe for these winds. The trucking industry is really sad. The companies dont teach the drivers. The experienced drivers rarely mentor the new drivers.

The stretch of interstate west of us has 56% trucks that’s about 20k trucks a day on average it’s about 12-15k a day next to us…. Some times it seems like grand theft auto in real life!

This was a little over 2 weeks ago, we (the fam) was 9 mins a head if this….i know cause I remember looking at the dash clock as I got off the exit 1 mile from here to drive the back roads cause the semi traffic was nuts and I didn’t want to drive though 12 miles of construction in the middle…..

PS yes this closed the interstate for 3 days and the bridge is still out of service and will be for some time. The SB only has 1 lane open because it has shoring holding up the girders where the pier cap has been taken out

I well remember the Southern Idaho winds, having grown up there. We had gusts of 70 mph plus last night here in North Idaho...which brought this very large fir tree down on our house. A couple of neighbors showed up, one with an excavator, and we had it off the house and cut into semi-manageable pieces in an hour. I'll be doing clean up work for another day or two, but was pleased that there was only fairly minor damage to the side of the house, and the roof was unhurt. The falling tree did take out a retaining wall, which I think slowed its' fall enough to prevent it from crushing the roof.

Nasty conditions for sure! They are calling for winds up to 50mph here until tomorrow. I'll be dodging garbage cans this morning.
