I've lost 140 pounds and am currently at my goal weight of 185. Smoking meat has been a big part of that.
I started a KETO way of eating (extremely low carbs) last Dec 29 2016 @ 322 pounds. Just under 11 months later, with Lots of large, DECADENT salads, healthy fats, and MEAT..... I've saved my wife a few years of widowhood.
No sugar, processed carbs, etc...is a small price to pay for feeling like Superman almost all the time. I don't hurt ANYWHERE most days anymore...until late in the day...or sometimes not at all. No more meds, blood pressure or otherwise. My pants went from a snug 50" waist to comfortable 36's carrying IWB everyday. (In Waist Band) (Double Stack 9 Milimeter)
My smokers are important tools in my weight loss journey. And my oldest son, inspired by the success he's seen with my Way Of Eating has put his own family on the smoked meat, KETO train.
YMMV, but smoking meat hasn't hurt me in the least. Quite the opposite! When I walk into my Low Carb Friendly Clinic, I'm a superstar. My bloodwork makes them all giddy. (My HbA1C is 4.9.) Saturated Fat doesn't make you fat. We've been lied to for 50+ years.
The fatter my meat is, the better I like it. I don't trim, no no no. No bread, potatoes, sugar, refined carbs foods etc sounds hard. Trust me, it just Ain't. I get less than 10% of my calories from veggies, 25-ish from protein and 70-ish percent from HEALTHY Fats.
Try it! Just don't tell your old school doctor. Or most of your friends. Google KETO or LCHF and your world is about to change. (Not your smoking meat habit though.) (That just gets worse!) Get some bloodwork done first, and in a few months you will see. (LDL might go up for a while, but it is not the risk factor we've been led to believe, but its a long story....)
Sorry this got so long, but I'm passionate.
(Didn't mean to hijack this thread. I thought the title was pretty funny! It was just so ironic for me...well what's left of me anyways!!!)
Have a Happy, Healthy, SMOKEY New Year!
