South Louisiana-Yes, it is HOT
Offshore forecast is calling for 15-20knot SW winds; 2-4ft. seas with occasional 5ft. both Sat. and Sun...

Even with a 26' World Cat catamaran, that weather would not be fun to fish in.
Looks like I will be working on my new 42.5cu.ft. stainless steel double door maturing chamber and doing yard work this weekend.

A wise man lives to fish another day! Having my own craft and living 20 minutes from the Pacific Ocean I can't count the times I drove over the hill only to not go, have breakfast, and drive back home. RAY

That's what WINDY (phone app) is for,,,,,, LOL. I use it all the time to help determine if we are going fishing or staying home. We are suppose to be going out for rock and ling cod fishing this coming Sunday, but WINDY is saying very windy on Monday which can easily roll back into Sunday.

Reminder to self, Windy is just a forecast. So, we'll just wait and see.

At worst case, I'll just smoke some Ling a Ding.

Well, the offshore trip out of the camp in Venice is out. Does not bother me as I will have opportunities all summer long, but I have family coming in to fish. Cousin and uncle....they fly in at least once a summer to fish...so change of plans. We are going hang out at my Uncle's new camp on an inland lake. His camp is on the NW side of the lake so with a SW or West wind it will be sheltered. It is fresh water so we'll be running catfish hoop nets and crab pots for blue crabs. The crabs are just starting to run good so might do a crab boil on the deck of the camp.

Blue crabs in fresh water?

Blue crabs in fresh water?
This lake is connected to salt water through a series of bayous, small lakes, and marsh. This is the spring male migration...

Migration

Blue crabs are migrants that occupy various estuarine and nearshore habitats, according to the physiological requirements of each life history stage. After larval development in high salinity waters and megalopal recruitment into estuarine waters, early crab stages (5-10 mm CW) of both sexes begin an up-estuary migration to shallow areas of low to intermediate salinity. Female crabs mate at the pubertal molt and move to more saline waters to spawn while males tend to remain in brackish areas. Five general migration patterns have been identified: 1) spring up-estuary migration of large juveniles and adult males; 2) recruitment of small juveniles to the upper estuary; 3) return of spawned females from offshore to the lower estuary in the summer; 4) upper-to-lower estuary and offshore migration of gravid females in autumn (the fall run of females); and, 5) down-estuary migration of large juveniles and adult males from the upper estuary in November and December.

You have to remember that Most all of the waters in South Louisiana are connected to the Gulf of Mexico. I live 90 miles from the Gulf, but there are crabs that live in the bayou that runs through town...not that I would catch them there....
We use to catch the downward migration in October/November at the duck camp in a different marsh.

Well being that Long Island is surrounded by salt water this is new to me...lol we don't get a lot of inland flow to fresh water.

Blue crabs in fresh water?
Years ago I watched a B.A.S.S. tournament on TV and the angler caught a largemouth bass and while reeling it in, the cameraman panned around to show a blue crab on the bottom beside the boat. This was in south Louisiana. Bull Sharks will swim a long way up freshwater rivers, too...
