Well after yrs of loud music, construction, and many, many thousands of 45 ACP, .223, & 12 GA going off next to my head.

I finally bite the bullet and bought hearing aids. I was tested several yrs ago with significant high pitch hearing loss, but was to proud/stupid to get them then. I've noticed my hearing has been getting worse each yr. Missing out on family conversation, or at least parts of it. Not being able to hear people in a crowded room and so on. Today was mind blowing to me, I can't believe I waited almost ten years to get these things.
I have to wait until my set gets in, they ordered them this afternoon.
I was able to try four different sets out in Costco, I want with Sennheiser because the others sounded unnatural to me, like I was hearing a loud TV or radio. The pair I chose sound so close to natural speech and music that I am extremely excited to get them. I actually got emotional hearing them for the first time. I could hear conversations going on around me, and change being made at the checkout counters 50 feet away from me.
It was mind blowing.
I haven't hear the whistling wings of ducks or geese pitching into my decoy spread in almost 20 yrs, I haven't heard crickets or tree frogs in over ten yrs. I'm utterly excited about this. And they were very affordable, under $2.000 without any help from insurance.
That is a steal in my opinion. They can steam misic, be used for phone calls or to block out background noise. One thing I wish they did was supress loud noises like gun fire, but that's ok I have some digital hearing protection for the range. My hearing was so bad I wasn't able to go with the 100% in the ear aids that I was hoping for, but these behind the ear aids are so small you can hardly see them, they look like they are part of the temples of my glasses.


Misssing out on soundsand family conversation was so frustrating too me, that it actually made me mad at times.

I'm sure they will take some getting used to, but I can already tell that I'm going to love them.

I can't wait to hear the critters around me again.and they really cut down the ringing in my ears, that drives me nuts at times.

If you're anything like me, don't wait anymore, just do it.

I think my wife is more excited about it than me, she won't have to be my interpreter any longer, and hear me say, what, or huh 100X a day now.

I got mine a few years back after denying my need for them. Holy crap the difference. Mine are basic due to my insurance, but what I could hear now was a real change. I used to get looks from the wife while adjusting because I could hear thing she couldn't now. Few times I handed her one so she would know I wasn't making up things. My worst experience was a dinner party at a restaurant, I got overwhelmed with all the sound and conversations in the room that I took them out till the room got less populated. Glad I can hear the grandkids now. TV is quieter when I watch something. The bluetooth feature is nice. I'll have to check the Costco ones out when the rechargeable batteries in these go and I have to replace them.

I too got some (Resound) about a year ago... They connect to the phone via bluetooth.. I am able to change settings depending on the need (a crowded/noisey room so that they only pick up what's straight out in front of me instead of a full 360` as well as many other settings) ... I can stream straight to them from a compatable phone (which I don't have, YET) ... They also have a feature where you can stream to them from venues/adutoriums or where ever that have a certain sound system (can't think of the name right now)... Mine are rechargable batteries with the charger being able to recharge 3 times with no power..
I have a different scenario as I have NO hearing in my left ear due to bacterial menningitis eating up the ear drum... So I have what is called a cross... The left one sends the sound over to the right one.. So if somebody is on the left side talking to me It will send the sound over to the right one...
There are other features as well, althoug mine were $5000 they offered interest free for one year which is the way I went... The credit card that it went through had 33% interest... Needless to say I payed it off early so as to not have to pay that interest from the start... The card got cut up and never used for anything else...
The only thing I don't like is it only takes a very little piece of ear wax to block the sound and not work.. You then have to take them out and use a little brush to clean the wax out... Each one has two microphones on them which have changeable filters in them as well as the earpiece has changeble filters as well... They are the smallest of all aids made... One has a button on it to change the volume and the other button changes the settings... All can be operated on the phone as well...

The set I ordered has all the bells and whistles, including an app.
They also use AI self adjust to my hearing test parameters.
I get them the day before my Hawaiian vacation. So I'll actually be able to hear the flight attendants when they ask me if I need another cocktail, why yes I do thank you!!!
I'm not big on flying to I start the flight out with a bloody Mary, then progress to Jack and cokes until we land.

I really need to get around to this myself.

On the range 300+ days a year for four years with .38+p/9mm,5.56mm and 7.62mm.Even with with plugs and headset it took its toll. And the countless metal shows over the decades didn't help.

I have listen to loud music all my life. So far dont notice any problems. I am 65 now. The neighbors probably like it if I would turn it down but I rarely go longer than 30 minutes for music. Movies might be another story but dont do it very often. I have a very nice setup and running 4 subs. Been upgrading all my life and happy with it now.

I'm 45 and on the path to these already. Spent 20 years in the auto industry standing next to impact wrenches all day. Shot without hearing protection far too many times that I care to admit. I'm not quite there yet, but getting damn close. The silver lining is I have an excuse to my wife as to why I didn't listen to her.

Maybe I will, maybe I won't. I'm really not bothered by not hearing alot of things, and my hearing is pretty darn bad. Most shooting I've worn muffs or plugs but there's always a oops... but my life at sea on aircraft carriers is what did me in. I have wicked tinnitus also... in fact mine goes to 11. I also go new prescription glasses bifocals, and a pair of polarized sunglasses, that are also bifocals, so I can tie fishing knots.

High pitched Turbo torch tips really did the most damage.
I don't know how many hour I have running those torches.
Seeing that for the last 20 yrs as a plumber I ran one every day all day without hearing protection. Stupid, I know now!!!

The tests are free at Costco, it doesn't hurt to make an appointment to get checked out. The last time I got the test it was just tones, this time they had some new tests with voices and background noises, it was cool.
