Welp, I pulled out a brisket last week, trimmed and prepped it for an overnight cook sat night at 10pm. Woke up at 0600 and looked at my phone app and my RT was off. I said oh no! Went out there and the meat was cold and no power to my back garage. Had to throw it away. Took me a cpl hrs thinking on what could've happen and I think I figured it out. Earlier on Saturday, I used my air compressor. Well I never turned it off so I'm betting it turned on during the night and tripped the breaker. Stupidity on my part.

Well out of sheer principal, I went to the store and got some beef ribs and a chuck roast to throw on and did that sunday.

I thought I would share my mini disaster.

Sorry to hear, and that is the kind of stuff that you just don't thik of until you do.

You had to get rid of it, it was off for too long. That sucks

But good you just went right back at it .

Post up about your ribs and chuck , and pictures if you have.

Oh yea I forgot I took pics. The ribs turned out good. I took the chuck to 201 but it wasn’t shreddable so we sliced it.

Nice looking cook .

I've taken to leaving stuff on the counter overnight .
Tossed 8 chicken thighs ( almost cried )
I found a vac pack of homemade Hot polish sausage on top of the garage fridge .
Smoked a bone in turkey breast yesterday , found the leftovers on the counter this morning .
That one is probably OK .

I like it better sliced myself .

Your Sunday smoke looks good!
We all have mishaps... to go along with chopsaw chopsaw screw ups... not long ago I went freezer diving, took out the leg of lamb and set beside the freezer... not sure how many days it sat out.

I guess so but I use the req tec therms that come with it and once the power shut off, that was a wrap
That's why the rec for a battery powered unit would have been helpful. You'd get an alert on your phone or unit inside house would beep if temp if hi/low. Several options that are reasonably priced.

For sure a good recovery!

If you are using a Rec Teq, maybe try hot and fast at 275 starting early in the day. I can cook a brisket or butts in a day at 275 starting at 0600 easy. I gave up on overnight cooks a while back. too much stress and risk.

I will never understand why people do overnight cooks.
I worry more about a fire than anything else . Never do it myself .

My SmokeFire tells me if I lose power , or if the pellets are low . Don't even need the app running . I generally don't use a therm .
That Rec teq doesn't do that ?

Edit : I generally don't use a therm , because I'm watching the cook , and use an instant read to check final IT .
If running overnight you should have a temp alarm .

I also have never done an over night cook , for all the reasons above, and I have never cooked anything that big ( yet ) that needed that many hours.

There's enough to worry about while I am sleeping then to worry about a flame going also.

OMG...I hope the ribs and the chuck helped to alleviate your sorrow for the dead brisket. :emoji_disappointed_relieved:

Food for thought. After a hurricane we had no power I used my portable battery bank and found that it will run the smoker for 14-16 hours. So now I use it on ever cook. Just have AC or Solar into it to charge then the smoker into it. Never have to worry about the breaker kicking off and then I have a ambient probe in the smoker that will alert the app and text me if the temp drops below 200°. I know the batteries are about 400-100 depending on the size. The Eco Flow Delta Pro is on sale now on Amazon for $499 when you click the coupon. Might want to consider it.

BTW nice recovery and sorry about the brisket.

Glad you recovered, and very nicely I might add! Now, get yourself a reporting thermometer that can set off an alarm on your phone that is loud enough to wake you up. There have been so many people here that have gone through the issue of their smoker dying over night and not knowing it until the morning.

First rule of thumb in overnight smoking, always have a thermometer that can wake you if the temp drops.
