A few reasons actually.Chris, I'm curious why. I like not having to empty it every cook, and the ease of taking it off and to the backyard to dump.
I have both styles . Lift and twist, and a squeeze . The squeeze kills my wrist , and the lift and twist you have to stand on your head to see both sides of the pivot . I have to many things to catch fire around the patio to have an open one anymore , but they are easier .squeezing the handle to release the bucket to empty it is a pain.
Oh lord, the shippingNot that I'd get it from amz com (see shipping cost) but it shows in stock. UNLESS I misunderstood.

I'm not sure about a generation, but definitely a decade or so, depending on your local. Here in NC, the humidity tends to cause rust, even if covered and cared for. I have a 22" that I don't use anymore, but I was going to rebuild it for someone. It's probably 12 years old. Of course, the star-shaped vent covers rusted out again, and I noticed that the vents in the bowl they cover had enlarged due to rust. These last AT LEAST a full generation so don't hesitate buying used if the $100+ new price is restrictive. Replacement parts are plentiful as well.
