i have a masterbuilt electric smoker . can i smoke when its raining if i keep the controls covered. will the weaqther affect the outcome of what i am smoking. (sausage).

I don't think they're meant to be used in the rain. There isn't any waterproofing on anything except what the case itself provides and it's full of rivet/screw holes on the back.

Can you put the whole thing under a covered porch or carport even? That would go a long way to safety, especially plugging it into a GFCI plug for "just in case". I've got mine on a porch and it gets blown on, but not "soaked".

I don't know...maybe if you threw a tarp over the whole thing except for the vent somehow...but then you'd still have water leaking in around there and dripping down the back more than likely. And you need air coming in the bottom still.

You could go out and get an ECB. You'll appreciate your MES even more after you use it, but if it rains you've got a good back-up unit.

You might read up on the warranty, using it in the rain may void your warranty. It's worth reading first.

I have used mine while it was raining. I just pushed to over under the over hang of my house. That way the rain did not land directly on the controls. Maybe you could use a patio umbrella over it.

ok, thanks for the replys. i have a mixture of venison and pork sausage 50-50 in casings. the receipe i have says to mix and refrigerate for 24 hours. will it hurt the meat to leave it in the fridge one more day until it quits raining.

I know if you have some extra wood around you could built something like this for your smoker.
