Back at it again smf'ers. I am trying out my searing plates that I ordered with my rec tec. I am also doing a side by side cook waygu tri tip vs an on sale tri tip I got from the local market. Side dish of smoked then fried in bacon grease potatoes.

Potatoes were great: )
So in a blind taste test, my 73 year old mom, my wife my 10 year old, and my 3 year old son came up with a tie. Myself, I could barely tell the difference in texture only. Flavor was equal on both. I pulled both at 132, let them rest for 20 minutes. I have to admit how shocked I am. I honestly thought Waygu was well worth the cost, but had never done a side by side. Waygu was $19 a lb on sale, select was $2.99 a lb on sale. I will not be spending the additional money on waygu again.

A Farmer gets 100 steer calves. They eat the same, they wander the same pastures, have equal access to water and the Farmers attention. They all go to slaughter the same day. The Inspector finds, 5 are Prime, 50 are Choice, 40 are Select and 5 are Canner, going to become Beefaroni.
Same happens with Wagyu. A couple of those animals are going to yield A5 Beef at $100+per pound. The rest are going to be pretty much the same beefy taste, texture and Grade of just about any other Angus, Hereford, Belted Galloway, Brahman or Dexter raised in the US for Beef. Biggest RIPOFF, Wagyu Burgers and Hot Dogs ...JJ

Live and learn, nice piece of work, Like! A big part of the fun of cooking for me is doing the meat shopping, I seldom spend more than $5 a pound on anything. RAY

That sure is a shocker!
I would never have believed that, if you hadn't done a side by side.
Anyway they look delicious!

Thank you, it was a fantastic meal. I was very happy with the searing plates performance on my rec tec.

I totally agree, nothing like getting a good piece of meat at a discount price.

Reminds me of a Family remembrance:
My parents had friends who sent their daughter to Private school, and then a Private College.
After she graduated from that private College, she came to my mother to help her write a resume for a Job she wanted to get. My mother had graduated from Public School about 30 years earlier, with ZERO College. She got the Job.
