I am looking for a way to always be sure that my water pan has constant water in it... This way if I have a long smoke and I start it at night I can go to sleep and not have to worry about the pan running out of water.

Any tips or anything would be helpful to me.

I've got the WSM and used water for about the first year. Got tired of the mess and so bought a flower pot tray to fit into the water pan. Wrap the two in wide foil and cook away. No water to boil away, a good heat sink and real easy cleanup too!

If you must keep the water, maybe a really big Hamster water Bottle would work!

Have you tried using sand in place of water? Many smokers swear by it.

I use sand in my water pan now and get more even temps. Cover sand with foil for easy clean up. Not an answer to your question but it works for me.

I've had some 14 hour smokes in the gosm an never ran the pan dry. If yer lookin fer more of a heat sink, I use 4 concrete paver bricks in the bottom, work great. I like keepin the water so as ta maintain the humidity in my cabinet.

Anythin simple fer a feed system will more in likely run over sometime an anythin to elaborate ain't worth the money.

The water pan goin dry really ain't gonna hurt much. My opinion is its there ta keep humidity up an act as a heat sink, so, the pavers fill that need.

Yall will find lots a different opinions on water pans.
