Went and looked at another store today...commercial grade units, top load washer with agitator, 5 year warranty. $1099 for each washer and dryer, said would sell to us for $999 each. Think we'll go with them. Lady said it's an issue with government regulations on cheaper models...too low of water levels.

You are saying you went with the Speed Queen and got those prices?

No, wasn't the speed queen brand, didn't buy them cuz wife wasn't along...her choice in the end. Steel parts, not plastic...they have sold them for a few years and no issues so far. Half of it is they are only 20 miles from us and provide really good customer service.

Okay, I'm sorry, I haven't had enough coffee yet. I went back through the thread. Maybe I missed it, but I didn't see where you wrote what brand you settled on.

We had to replace our washer 2 or 3 years ago. Bought an LG and, at the risk of catching the attention of the gods, it has performed great. we don't get any foul odors from it at all. Came with a decent warranty.
Everything made these days is designed with a built in short life span.

I touted my mud room Whirlpool washer earlier in the thread because of the lack of egg smell. I forgot to mention that, for a while now, the dial does not work properly. As you rotate it, it will no longer select certain cycles. Might need a new mother board. Wondering if it is worth trying to replace that or just get a new one. They are stack washer/dryer, so I would probably end up with a whole new set.

I hope yours don't have the rotten egg smell like every other LG.
I read a ton of reviews and none said anything about a smell.

They are not made like they used to be for sure. Hoping to have a similar happy experience with ours. they are not here yet...six weeks from order to delivery.

Appreciate all the responses….

We ended up going with the Speed Queen! Not sure who said it, but these things are built and they actually factory test them!

I moved the Maytag with zero issue… Then moving the Speed Queen… half way thru I was like… never thought I’d need a beer half way thru moving a washer! 😂

Have had no issues, kinda spendy… but the thing I like about the Speed Queen is 100% USA made! It was pointed out too that they are easy to work on at a later date… but has a 5 year everything warranty… that includes ALL parts and labor!

Hey all, so our washers transmission went out… (cheaper to buy new than fix) kinda frustrating due to the price of washers and it only lasted bout 3 years! Bought a Maytag thinking we’d have it for a while… IMO, 3 years is not a while vs the price paid!

Anyway, is there any brand you all would recommend? I thought Maytag was the $hit, but now thinking that is exactly what it turned out to be!

Any input on a new unit is appreciated!

Thanks all!
Everything is Made in China now, for the absolute cheapest price possible, from the absolute cheapest materials possible, so that CEO's and shareholders can prosper at the cost of their Country & their Countrymen. They killed the Maytag Repair Man to get the change he had in his pocket.

Soon, we will have to revert to washing our clothes by hand in a washtub in order to have an appliance that will last...

Yeah, I'm cynical.
