Hey all, so our washers transmission went out… (cheaper to buy new than fix) kinda frustrating due to the price of washers and it only lasted bout 3 years! Bought a Maytag thinking we’d have it for a while… IMO, 3 years is not a while vs the price paid!

Anyway, is there any brand you all would recommend? I thought Maytag was the $hit, but now thinking that is exactly what it turned out to be!

Any input on a new unit is appreciated!

Thanks all!

Maytag was great, they have gone down hill recently. I had to get a new washer about two years ago. I did some (way too much) research and ended up getting LG. Standard upright without the agitator. Worked great for us so far.

We bought a Speed Queen washer and dryer after our Maytags died after about 10 years. Good reviews and from what I read, they are basically commercial units sold as residential use. Had them for about 2 years and running strong.

Was this a top. Or front load? I do know from experience that their front load units are plagued with problems. And are a nightmare to troubleshoot. Back when I used to be an appliance tech. I often delt with warranty claims. And Maytag used to be pretty forgiving even on a 3 year washer. Get ahold of them. You have nothing to lose by trying. They might supply you with a new/rebuilt tranny for free. Though, not the labor. These are not that hard to swap out on top load washers. Not something I'd recommend for a novice to do on a front loader.

Not for sure Justin...I looked at some when I bought our pellet smoker...we want to get a new set. Go away from front load back to top load...not a big fan if front loads. Maybe I'll call and talk to them again. Maybe should since I just bought a new truck...wait, she laid claim to that ! :emoji_blush:

Been going through this with a Fridge . Was gonna buy a new one , but what do you buy ???
The manufacture put out a " kit " as a fix . So I went that route . Like Steve suggest , I'd call them . Hopefully you speak the language .

My washer and drier are at least 20 years old . Kenmore . I just keep doing the minor repairs . No way I'm getting rid of those .

We've had a top load Samsung for about 6 years. Minor repairs here and there but nothing I wasn't able to do myself. Dryer on the other hand was a piece of sh!t. I replaced part after part on that thing. Would probably go with an LG or speed queen if I had to replace today.

Seriously we have a Whirlpool top loader. It's been flawless for about 10 years.

The older Kenmore appliances were made by Whirlpool .
I have the first fridge I bought when I was 23 still going in the garage . Never had to repair anything on it . Paid $500.00 for it at the scratch and dent store .

LG front load washer here purchased 6 years ago. Cleans just fine. Constantly battling the front load washer rotten egg smell.

LG dryer, piece of junk. The lint filter assembly is poorly designed. It allows a lot of the lint to bypass the filter, leading to "Flow Sense" flashing on almost every cycle. Many times I get the flashing d80 message after a cycle which means the unit senses poor airflow. Taking apart the lint filter assembly completely to vacuum it out thoroughly has become a routine operation on this heap.

I do not recommend LG for washers and dryers. Maybe the top load washer is okay because, for some reason, only front load washers seem to have the rotten egg smell issue. Odd since, when I was at a point in life where I had to use laundromats, those big front loaders never smelled like that.

Do you leave the door open when not in use?
Yes. And, I wipe it down. And, I leave the dispenser tray open. Lots of things to have to do to still have the smell.

The old Whirlpool front loader in my mud room that is probably 15 years old never has the smell, and I don't have to leave it open, wipe it down, etc.

LG is poorly designed.

We bought a Maytag and also got three years too.

Ended up going with the all mechanical top loading Speed Queen and eventually the matching dryer. Not a chip or digital anything on either.

Wife had to have the fancy front loads when they came out bought Samsung and both were junk. Service company said they couldn't even get parts for them. Got rid of them and got good old fashioned top load and old style dryer they are whirlpool and have done good the last 8 years but I did just hae to replace the timer on the dryer easy diy project

Unfortunately, manufacturers quality has declined over the years and their products don't last as long as they used to. A few members have recommended Speed Queen and I have read and heard good things about them. The only downside that I can see is that they are expensive, but supposedly they are built like a tank.

They are expensive now. When I bought our set (10+) they were the middle of the road price. Without all the bells and whistles.
If either crapped out today and parts and labor were over half. Id go buy the same thang no matter the cost though.
Go to any laundromat and see what their running. Matter of fact Id really like to have a new XL set that you had to feed quarters. That would be a real set of front loaders there. Bet they'd pay for their self and a good chunk of power bill at the end of their life. LoL

Just looked at these today...

5 year warranty and I told the sales lady I would tell my wife to stay out of it since the lid doesn't lock lol!

Dryer is same price.
Had others not as spendy but only 1 year warranty on the one brand and half the price...pretty sure you get what you pay for.
