Every night about 8 o'clock, Roxy lets me know its time for our 2 or 3 mile walk--just about the time it starts to get REAL dark out. So I get dressed warm, put on my headlight, load the bear gun (lots of bears, cougars, and wolves in our area) and off we go.
Well, yesterday one of my neighbors saw a grizzly bear less than 1/4 mile from our house. Hmmmmm. That adds a whole new dimension to our walk.
So last night, off we went as usual. Got about 1/2 mile from home and hear this loud crashing noise--like a big tree being pushed over. Believe me, it didn't take long to turn on the head light and get the bear gun off its sling over my shoulder. Then the 2 of us stood there staring in the direction of the crash, my head swiveling the light around like one of those nodding birds you stick on your dash. Turned out nothing came roaring out of the trees at us, so we just continued with our walk. I do have to admit, though, that I found myself checking our back trail a WHOLE lot more frequently than usual!!!!
