Well the kids came home for the weekend so we decided chicken 1/4s on the kettle using my improvised vortex was the ticket. Along with fried taters and fried green tomatoes. Wife had the chicken soaking in buttermilk beforehand, took that out and dried off then went and got the kettle going. Shelly seasoned them while I did that so not even sure what she used. Here they are skin side down to start

Did throw a chunk of hickory on top of coals. After the flip, these got basted with butter a couple times. Proof positive I need a 26" kettle, was kinda crowded. Sorry for the blurry pic

Here they are off the kettle

In our discussion of what we were having with the chicken I had brought up either mashed taters or fried potatoes and onions. Fried taters was decided but with everything going on shelly just happened to skin the potatoes and didn't think anything about it until she was done, she never skins them for fried taters...so skinless fried taters it is

I had never had fried green tomatoes until a week ago, but after seeing a post from Travis Sowsage Sowsage I had to try them, and being the only one home it was the perfect time. Since I loved them so much everyone else wanted to try them

The whole meal was excellent! Really enjoy using the kettle with vortex for chicken, makes it so simple. Also had cucumber salad but no pics. Have to say as good as the chicken was the fried green tomatoes stole the show! Sil didn't try them but shelly, daughter and son loved them. So much in fact we couldn't finish our chicken cuz we filled up on the tomatoes.

Thanks for looking!

That's a fine looking meal and a real nice piece of work Ryan, Like! There are times I wish I had a 26"er but it's just me and the wife so the 22" will just have to do. Those fried maters & taters look great too! RAY

Wow Ryan. Excellent meal there buddy. Chicken and all the goodies just look fantastic. I still say though that your improvised vortex is nothing short of genius!! Great job buddy.

Thanks Robert, I appreciate it! Just glad I finally thought of it! Been wanting a vortex for a long time, just never got around to getting one. One day light bulb turned on and bingo!

Ryan those quarters look great! And the potatoes too! But I'm especially excited that you guys like the fried green tomatoes! I may have to make some later today!

Thanks Travis, I appreciate it! I was thrilled also they all liked them. We couldn't finish all of them, was wondering if reheating in air fryer would work or not. Maybe try after we load pigs today.

Ryan

Great job Ryan! I could dig into a plate of that!
Thanks Steve! It was good, and I was stuffed

New to site, but already making me hungry. Never had fried green tomatoes. Going to give them a try.

Love the vortex for chicken. I could eat 2 plates. Well not the green tomatoes ( not a tomato fan) but everything else.

Vortex is awesome! Funny thing is my kids aren't much for tomatoes. In fact my son has BLTs and hold the T. Can't say you would like them but to me they were nothing like a tomato. Kids did say they liked the thinner ones

Ryan, WOW another great meal on that improvised Vortex! Looks awesome and delicious. I also get BLT's hold the T. I have tried fried pickles, but not the green tomatoes. Most anything fried is good, I may have to give them a try in the future. The Chicken and those Potatoes look and I'm sure tasted great.

Thanks bud, I appreciate it! It was all very good! Funny thing is we don't do much fried food in oil anymore, don't even like the smell of fried food in oil. But didn't get any of that with the fried green tomatoes. Just a happy I'm full smile!
