This is for all Vets, and those presently serving in the armed forces!

When in England at a fairly large conference, Colin Powell was asked by the Archbishop of Canterbury if our plans for Iraq were just an example of empire building' by George Bush.

He answered by saying,

"Over the years, the United States has sent many of its fine young men and women into great peril to fight for freedom beyond our borders.
The only amount of land we have ever asked for in return is enough to bury those that did not return."

It became very quiet in the room.

************************************************** **********

Then there was a conference in France where a number of international engineers were taking part, including French and American. During a break one of the French engineers came back into the room saying

"Have you heard the latest dumb stunt Bush has done? He has sent an aircraft carrier to Indonesia to help the tsunami victims.
What does he intend to do, bomb them?"

A Boeing engineer stood up and replied quietly:

"Our carriers have three hospitals on board that can treat several hundred people; they are nuclear powered and can supply emergency electrical power to shore facilities; they have three cafeterias with the capacity to feed 3,000 people three meals a day, they can produce several thousand gallons of fresh water from sea water each day, and they carry half a dozen helicopters for use in transporting victims and injured to and from their flight deck..

We have eleven such ships; how many does France have?"

Once again, dead silence.

************************************************** ***********

A U.S. Navy Admiral was attending a naval conference that included Admirals from the U.S., English, Canadian, Australian and French Navies.

At a cocktail reception, he found himself standing with a large group of Officers that included personnel from most of those countries. Everyone was chatting away in English as they sipped their drinks but a French admiral suddenly complained that, whereas Europeans learn many languages, Americans learn only English."

He then asked,

"Why is it that we always have to speak English in these conferences rather than speaking French?"

Without hesitating, the American Admiral replied,"

"Maybe it's because the Brits, Canadians, Aussies and Americans arranged it so you wouldn't have to speak German....... Twice."

You could have heard a pin drop

************************************************** *******

To all those that are serving, or have served, thanks!

Agreed. All political biases aside, I tip my hat and raise my glass to all of our Soldiers, past and present. Thank you all for selflessly serving your country and offering protection to those who cannot defend themselves.

It is sad that our armed forces only get 1 day of recognition every year, as we should be thinking of them each and every day.

That being said, if you go to this web site, www.LetsSayThanks.com you can pick out a thank you card and Xerox will print it and it will be sent to a soldier that is currently serving in Iraq. You can't pick out who gets it, but it will go to some member of the armed services.

How AMAZING it would be if we could get everyone we know to send one!!!

This is a great site.

Please send a card. I did. It is FREE and it only takes a second.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if the soldiers received a bunch of these? Whether you are for or against the war, our guys and gals over there need to know we are behind them ...

SO SEND ONE!

One of my favorite quotes is:

"I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom." -- Abraham Lincoln

Thank you Vets! You served your country and a common civilian and for that I can't ever possibly repay you.

I'm with you, Richtee... The USA truly is the greatest nation on Earth. Some people complain that we argue too much about politics and religion and everything else that makes our blood boil, but that is what makes our country so great. The FREEDOM to question authority and initiate change.

God Bless America!

It's easy to live as an American i this country, to enjoy the privledges, and freedom of life as an American, to sit back on ones butt and complain
while at the same time taking advantage of what others have paid the ultimate price for.

What's hard is fight to be an American, and having those same people question your doing so, or having them try to judge your decision to serve, based on some belief you gave them the right to express.

Where ever there are men, there will always be wars, there will always be those who take a stand and are willig to fight for their beliefs and others who will condem them for it. If you have something worth while it's worth fighting for.

If you can't or won't fight for your beliefs there will always be others who will. If you can't or won't stand up for your rights you can at least support those who can and will. God bless those that can and do and those that can't but support those that do - as for the the rest God help you.

A most excellent post, 'Dawg.
