I went through this a few months ago and finally settled on a Food Saver Model V2284 from Amazon. I paid just under $80 and get free shipping with Prime. I had tried to buy a unit for less money (call me cheap) and sent it back as unacceptable. When the FS V2284 came I tried it out with a lot of different things. Ran through the bags and roll that came with it pretty quick.

So far it has been a very good unit and has pulled a vacuum and held it until sealing every time I've used it. I would recommend it.

I also recommend Lisa for supplies. I don't know about her prices on the units themselves.

I also have a Food Saver, and I agree it is wonderful.  We use it for everything.  And the bags and rolls that lisa sells are well below the price I have found them anywhere else.  Check them out.  I got mine at K-Mart on sale for 69 bucks on sale reg price 89 bucks.  Hope this helps.  Steve

the food saver units are nice but I have burnt up too many of them. I went with the commercial Cabela's unit. It goes on sale for $399 some times. Its by far the very best sealer I have ever had.

But as Pineywoods said contact LisaB She will take care of you.

best answer will also depend on your definition of 'fair amount'...the more you seal, the more the price of bags comes into play and a chamber sealer may be more economical in the not-so-long run...

...and as everyone says...trust Lisa, she won't steer ya wrong...
