Hey all, just wondering your thoughts here as we’ve never really been on a vacation due to several reasons… don’t get me wrong, we’ve had some weekend getaways… but never say a 5-6 day and night vacation.

Would like to do something as a family here soon. My daughter is 18, just graduated EMT school and is dating a great kid… so I think I know how that is going to end. My son is 16 and a Junior and will be graduating next year.

I’d like to take them somewhere maybe all inclusive to a nice resort?! Was thinking Cancun?! But definitely open and asking for suggestions.

Thank you in advance for any suggestions!

We are taking our kids to Hawaii for graduating HS. Dont know any deets other than that yet. Colorado is a great place if they are active, hiking, downhill biking where they bring you up on the chair lift and ride down, camping, white water rafting , trout fishing, lots of touristy things.

Have you thought about a cruise? We love them for our family as there is something for everyone, you get to see multiple places, and they are all-inclusive for the most part. We like Cancun as well though for the all-inclusive resorts.

We been going to Playa Del Carmen instead of Cancun. Lot less people and can walk every where. It more of a eat, drink and see bands and stay out of trouble vacation for us but there is several places to visit that requires a bus or cab ride. I like Trip Adviser forums to research places thinking about going.

I was last in Cancun in 1990. It was pretty wild then. Not sure what it's like now.
As you're in Idaho, how about Puerto Vallarta on the west coast? It's a 4.5 hour flight from Seattle, probably about the same from Spokane or Boise.
Lots of good AI's down there, and frankly it's one of the safest places for tourists that I've ever visited. I feel safer there than in downtown Seattle, where I work.
Most of the locals speak decent English, and are very friendly. Lots to do and see. Their public water quality is up to US standards as well. I've been going down nearly every year since 2006.

Good idea. Also Cabo San Lucas on that side as well. Dang, now you all got me wanting to plan a vacation! Although the wife and I are taking a few trips to FL the next few months so I can't complain.

We have a vacation spot at Vidanta which is about half way between Cancun and Playa del Carmen. Its a luxury resort with fantastic amenities. We just got back from staying there for 2 weeks. Its Vidanta Riviera Maya. If you want more info dont hesitate to reach out. I am an owner and can get you the owners rate for a week.

@Rafter H BBQ

What's your and your family looking for?
What do guys like? What do you hate? Got passports? Know any other languages? Wanna get out of you comfort zone, or catch up on well-earned sleep?

A caribean cruise is a good do-nothing vacation.

Rent an RV and visit national parks for great road trip.

Central America for fantastic eco adventures. (Nice resort at Arenal Volcano in La Fortuna, Costa Rica)

Viking river criuse along the Danube is a great way to see Europe.

List goes on

^^^^ Great stuff. No need to go outside the Country unless it's high on your list. May I suggest talking to family and friends and find a reputable travel agent? We're not well traveled so it helped immensely. We had some air vouchers from getting bumped so we splurged for Cancun. I want to explore Texas/Alabama Gulf Coast area. A few years earlier we Air BNB'd in Destin, FL and was my first exposure to that area and really liked it. Goal is to drive halfway and stop say in Nashville then finish the drive next day etc. I want to drive the cost down enough to do it more often.

Went to Cabo a couple years ago, we both were let down. We got badgered and harassed all day everyday in town. It was not mild, I would call it aggressive.

Cozumel is nice, been there 10X. Ambergris Caye in Belize is very chill and fun. ITs been a few years now since we were there. Stayed at Ramons Village. Scuba was ok, but island was fun.

Hawaii is very nice. The big island is dreamy calm, great food, went twice. Maui (before the fire) was also good, but more spendy.

I won't be much help, last time we did anything like that we made it to Arizona 😂
Curious to see what you got with. We've been thinking of something like that as well.

Do you and the family like any kind of auto racing/motorsports... Cruise in Alaska ... Fishing/hanging out in the Keys... ??????????????

Sit them down, bring a notebook with you and pen.

ASK each of them what areas they have wanted to go to and see? What things they would like to do outside of their every day normal life that they otherwise wouldn't get a chance to do (parasailing, hang gliding, jet skis/wave runners, exploring caves, diving with the Dolphins, etc).

Once you have that, give them both a copy of the list and tell them to sit on for a week, do internet research, think things through. You do the same.

Then the following weekend you all re-convene with your lists.

You discuss it, compare it and whittle it down to 3-4 areas.

Then you all go back to the internet and research the best area that gives all three of you the best opportunity to do the most things you want and have the best time. One last re-convene to discuss and then you all make a choice.

Family VACA!
I would first make a serious list:
1 Where do you want to go to ?
2 For how long ? You could rent a high end house/ condo: If yur kids need to go back home ?
Stay an extra week or longer ? 2 wks or ? Off season is a $ Saver !
My parents had a nice beachfront condo in FL, walk out the door to the beach !
What is yur primary focus on this VACA?
Thinking want yur kids to be with you most of the time ?
3 How much $ are you willing to spend?, Not my business, but got to figure it out ?
Cruises and all inclusive resorts , some have extra costs, depending on what you signed up for ?
IMO: All inclusive resorts are over priced, with then knowing you will not use what you paid for!
Furthermore, you have a nice family group, costing some serious $?
IMO: Agree on a Location that you all agree to, then see what is available that will offer the perks you are looking for?
Are willing to drive or just FLY ? Again can add up $?
Personally? I would stay away from Mexico ! I do not feel Comfy there!
Folks want to tell me how great it is,? NOPE!
I can go on about it, going to leave it at that !
Sorry for the rambling?
Reach out if you need any more info?
GOOD LUCK On yur VACA!
