No smoke ring but I made the meal turn out great. Just like many others, I had trouble keeping the AMNPS going and it was likely a lack of airflow issue in my MES40. Ended up getting most of my smoke from throwing the pellets into the factory smoke box.
Looks great. I was curious about the charcoal pellets. When lighting your AMNPS, how long do you let it burn?
I actually get a flame going, then use a heat gun to get it really good and hot. Then I blow the flame out. Plan on topping off next time after I get the smoke going.
I let it burn with a flame for a good 10 min and it went out on it's own. It produced great smoke for 15 min or so then went out. I did that again and it did the same so I had to use the MES40 smoke box to produce smoke. I'll tinker with the airflow and positioning sometime when I'm not cooking for others and on a deadline.
The pellets from Todd were very high quality though. The meat tasted much better than when using wood chips from the big box stores.
I have only ever used Todd's pellets, so that is good to know. Was just about to place an order for some Pecan and Apple. I have a Gen 1 30... so airflow is not an issue. Good luck. Have you asked this in the electric smoker section?
I haven't yet but have seen the issue many times for others. Some people went as far as drilling a hole in the side of their MES, others removed the factory smoke tray...etc. I tried different positioning with the factory tray but as of right now I'm not removing it entirely or drilling a hole. Probably just need to play around with it but am open to any suggestions from others.
