Anyone know what the reasoning is why a few years ago NHL players were allowed to play in the Olympics and then could not up until this year again ? It would figure that your country would want the finest players on their teams. I do know there is many quality College standouts that could probably hold their own against a non NHL team. Just curious when and why the decision-making.

AI says NHL players are playing in the Olympics because a 1995 agreement between the NHL, NHLPA, IIHF, and IOC allowed the world's best players to compete, bringing unparalleled talent and excitement, though participation was paused for 2018 and 2022 due to scheduling and pandemic issues, but a new agreement for 2026 has brought them back for the first time in 12 years to showcase top-tier "best-on-best" hockey and grow the sport globally.
