Uploading profile picture

I have been trying to upload a profile picture without any luck. The picture file format is *.jpeg dimension 325 x 471, file sixe is 28.0 kb. The system response is "file upload failed". * As stated on the same page is "Note: The maximum size of your custom image is 250 by 250 pixels or 48.8 KB (whichever is smaller)". My image file is smaller than 48.8 kb.

Can someone explain this to me?

* I just noticed that if you click to view my public profile, the profile picture is there, but it does not appear whenever I create a new thread.

I may be wrong here but I believe the Avatar is the only picture that shows in a thread and the Porfile picture only shows up when someone clicks on your profile ...
