Hello, My name is Christian and I'm a seasoned smoker.  I already have a lot of grills and smokers but have it in my head that I need to make a UDS (Ugly Drum Smoker).  I live in Ft. Lauderdale, FL and am having a difficult time finding a steel 55 gallon drum.  I've hit all the scrap yards, janatorial supply places, Craigs List and the yellow pages.  Sadly, no one has one.  If you are in South Florida and have a line on where I can find one, I'd appreciate the help.

Hi Christian! :welcome1: to SMF!!! We're happy you found us! You've come to the right place, we have over 50,000 members who just love to share their experience and over 1,000,000 posts describing it! Yea that’s right over 1,000,000!

The search bar at the top can be your best friend when you are trying to find answers to your questions but you can still ask too if you want!

We have an Articles section that is full of great information about smoking to include a lot of recipes and instructionals. Check it out there is a lot to learn in there!

You might want to check out Jeff's Free 5 day E-Course, it will teach you all the basics plus a whole lot more!

We're having our 3rd annual South Florida Gathering in November, you might be interested in attending. Just a bunch of good people sitting around smoking some good food all weekend, Oh yea and eating it too!

Thanks for the invite Dave.  I love a friendly cooking competition among friends especially when its more about the food than the competition!       I have a large smoker on a trailer that I use a lot, do you know if bringing it would be an issue with the park or are they OK with them?  If I ever find a 55 gallon barrel I may have a UDS which would probably travel a little easier.

Christian, go ahead and post that question on the SFL thread, Doug or Keith might have an answer, Keith was just there this week.

Welcome to the forums, Christian!  Glad you've joined us.  You've found a great place to learn and share ideas on our favorite pastimes...grilling, smoking, and curing great food!  There are lots of friendly and knowledgeable folks here who really enjoy helping one another.  Just ask any time you need help and you'll get plenty!

Welcome!!!

Did you find your drum? Another option is feed stores. We get food grade drums for our live stock from a feed store we go to. Not all will have them, but we will find them at the ones that will sell feed mixes in bulk. If you don't locate one in either place let me know and we could possible meet up and I could get one from our feed place.
