UDS question

So I was just able to source a barrel for $29.  That's the best price I've found so far.  But it's through an oil company.  They're cleaned and refurbed for storing oil products.  There's no way to know for sure what they've had in them, but it's virtually certain that they've had one petroleum based product or another.  Oil, diesel oil, hydro fluid, etc...

Can this be burned out to make it safe for use as a UDS?  If so, how hot do I need to get it and for how long?

If I can make this safe, I think I can get a UDS up and rolling for about $50.  That's $50 well spent in my book.

I think it be fine. Just burn as hot as you can get it. I burn mine all day .

Scratch that!  Another Utah board member just sourced me a guy who will sell me a food safe one for $20, and his place is about 2 miles from where I work.  Pics of my UDS build will be coming up soon!
