Is it me or are things different concerning turkey prices and sales. I cook bone it turkey breasts every year for my Church Food Pantry Thanksgiving. We are mindful of costs and try to purchase the birds on sale, the more we save the more we can feed. I'm not a any type of budget but I do want to be a good steward with the Church's $$.
By this time of the year we have most all the birds bought and are ready for the cook.

This year is different, I am not seeing very many sales. Usually you can get a whole bird for a "sale" price when you make a large purchase. I'm only seeing mid-sized birds for .99 at Kroger. I will usually buy one of these for next years holiday. We do a big feed and make a 22-24 pounder, plus a bone in breast. Since I was not seeing any sales I even included WalMart in my search. Ended up paying .99 the a 24 pounder, and got a few breasts for $1.98. My wife found a few more breasts at Aldi for $1.49. Kroger ended up having a sale @ .99 per pound limit 2. We went to get birds armed with Kroger cards from my kids and friends. They were very unkind at the check out and were claiming only 2 per household. We showed them and drove up the road to another store.

Guess the bird flu thing is real, supply is down because of high demand, as beef if through the roof. The overall selection was smaller in weight too. Guess the price of feed is up too!

Last year I made 16 7-8 pound birds, this year we are anticipating more people at this meal because of the stalemate in Washington. This year I've got 23 to cook.

God Bless America

I've noticed a change, as well. I bought 2 15lb. turkeys from Walmart week before last and they were 84¢/lb. and I was thinking they were usually a little cheaper in past years around this time...
