Traveler and water pan

I have been smoking with a Bradley and a master built smaller. Both use a water pan. Dose anyone use a water pan with a pellet smoker . I just bought a Traeger 124

I don't know much about the pellet poppers. However a water pan is mainly used in cheap smokers to help control heat. A lot of people fill the water pan with sand then wrap with foil.
