Trailer brakes

For you trailer builders. I have a 120 gallon reverse flow trailer being built. Will I need to install brakes on it? If so, what type? Hydrualic? Electric? The builder is using 12" tires, should I upgrade to 14 or 16? Thanks.

How heavy will it be? What are you towing it with? Do you have a brake controller or are willing to put one into the tow vehicle? Go electric and avoid surge brakes.

It's about 850 total weight. Going to be towing it with an F150 with the tow package.

If you go with breaks definitely go electric. If it was me I would go with bigger then 12" tires.

That isn't a whole lot of weight. I don't know that I would bother with brakes.

I would not waste the money on the brakes. As far as the tires, I would go with 15 inch. Cheaper and easier to find a 15 inch when time for replacement.

Go with a 15 inch or 16 inch rim and tire. It will hold more weight, easier to find replacements and they look better I think. How long is the trailer and how much does it weigh. Is it worth it to put brakes on? I have pulled car haulers with my 04 f150 with no trailer brakes and it was fine. So it's up to you.

I am going to nix the brake idea but I'll upgrade the rims and tires.

You can always Craigslist some rims for your truck for the trailer. Then it matches. Lol

You are on the correct path.  Living in Florida, I don't even put brakes on my 250 builds.

In many states the question of trailer brakes is dependent on the weight of the trailer or it's GVW capacity. Being that light I doubt you would need brakes but I would call and check to be sure
