Has anyone added a second wall to a traeger pro?

I have a pro 34 and getting it up to a higher temp and saving money on pellets is my goal

At the moment i use a welding blanket and wondered if adding a second internal wall has been done or if it's a stupid idea. Seems it should be an easy mod by creating a template out of maybe cardboard and then cutting a sheet of steal - this could then be fixed in place with high temp silicone.

My welding blanket is thin, I use a moving blanket, its a lot thicker and offers some real insulation.

Yes I have seen the traeger blankets, they are expensive and difficult to get hold of in the UK.

Moving blanket is a great idea but i wondered if a permanent solution of double wall might be better.

It could be done but probably more work than it's worth. I've seen some people with metalworking tools do it on offset smokers by rolling a sheet of steel then drilling holes and using bolts with buts to provide the air gap between the skin of the smoker and the interior. That's going to work a whole lot better than just gluing it in with some silicone right up against the skin of the smoker.

The welding blanket/moving blanket/insulation jacket is an easier idea all around.

Most of the heat generated in a pellet grill/smoker is not being lost from the walls of the device, whether single-walled, double, or blanketed. It's being blown out the stack. The fan feeding the crucible really moves a LOT of air. Slowing down the fan will significantly reduce your pellet consumption, and I think gives better-tasting food, but at an increased risk of flame-outs and some sacrifice in the "set and forget" nature of the technology.
