I guess I'm in the market for a new instant read therm.
I have a cheapo Weber branded unit that seems to have lasted about a year. Tonight I did some burgers on the grill and when I probed them, the therm said they were at 110*. The juices were flowing clear, so I knew they were well over 110*. Heck, at 110 there shouldn't even be any juices. I pulled the burgers and they were perfect. Boil tested the therm and it said 200*. Hmm 10 deg off. Fixed my iced tea and what the heck, lets check it. 40*. Double hmmm. 10 deg off in the other direction. I've had several cooks lately that did not come out quite as expected. This thing is just wonky.
I've looked at Lavatools with lifetime warranty and iTronis TP-01 with up to 3 year warranty if you register it. Read some reviews where folks had probs getting Lavatools to deliver on the warranty. To me the Warranty is worthless if I have to fight them and near worthless if the ordeal is dragged out by having to send proof back and forth before they DO back it.
Seeing how Dillon at Thermopro has gone above and beyond to take care of customers here and they are sponsors of the site, I am leaning very hard in their favor.
Anyone here use the TP-01 ? Any issues with it ?

That was the first thing I checked. If reading C boiling would have been 100 deg and ice at 0 deg. Display did say F tho.

The Javelin by Lavatools is like $25.00 on Amazon for a 4 second therm. Has a magnetic back for the fridge, a lanyard hole, antimicrobial NSF plastic, splash proof and lifetime warranty. There should be threads titled Thermowand when it came out five years ago or so before the name changed to Javelin. The Javelin Pro is rotating/backlit screen 3 year warranty.

Thermopro TP-01 is on sale at $8.00. Make sure you turn it off and it doesn't get bumped on in the drawer.

Guess I'm gonna hold off for a while. I somehow got labor Day off, but the wife has work. Now I got a little time to myself to mess around. This issue has been wearing on my mind a bit. Just makes no sense to me that the instant read would be off in the mid range and so close at the calibration points.
So without the woman looking over my shoulder and giving "the Look" I got out the wooden clothes pins and set up an erector set on the edge of a pot to hold the probes from both remote therms and the instant read at about the same level and about a half inch apart. Filled with water and applied the heat. All therms tracked together and stayed for the most part within 3 degrees of each other all the way to near boiling. At boiling the remotes read 5 degrees low while the instant read read only 3 degrees low.(now noted and dated on back of therms)
As much as it annoys me, guess I'll have to write it off to operator error.
Try again tonight on pork steaks.

"Boiling" is dependent on altitude.....

Yeah a double checked that first. Living so close to the Mississippi River I knew I couldn't be much over sea level. Boiling point for me is 212. Varified on numerous sites.
