Too much wood, and going through it too quickly?

Hey folks - happy Sunday. 

I'm a relatively new smoker and have noticed a problem. My wood chips are burnt up every 45 minutes - hour, so I'm reloading those bad boys all the time. What am I doing wrong? I soak them over night so they're plenty wet. 

I use about 2.5 cups at a time, and chips rather than chunks. (This was per the instructions that came with my Masterbuilt Dual Fuel smoker). Is this too many chips? And should I switch over to chunks anyway, instructions be damned? I have tried chunks before but don't seem to get as much smoke. 

Thanks for any advice! I'm doing a shoulder in a couple hours, excited to get smoking today.

Is this on the gas side of the pit or the charcoal side?

If it is on the charcoal side then I would switch to chunks, 3" long by 2" thick is a good size, and add one when you reload charcoal.

If it's on the gas side what you describe sounds about right.

It's a Masterbuilt Dual Fuel, using the gas side.

I ran into sorta a similar problem ,  used kingsford  competition instead of the blue bag on a pork shoulder today, it took 3hrs of messing with the vents on the Longhorn before I got it where I wanted it .
