I just ordered the Maverick MODEL ET-7 DUAL PROBE REDI CHEK REMOTE THERMOMETER. After I placed the order I got to thinking, how do I know how accurate they are. It seems like if you look at any different thermometer they may read differently, the same way hygrometers are that read relative humidity in a cigar humidor. Is there a way to calibrate it so that it is more accurate, or can they be even made to be precise?

Best you can do is know your elevation & what temp water boils at where you live.

Then check the therm in boiling water & ice water to see how accurate it is.

Most will be within 1 or 2 degrees of the intended target temp.

Unless you buy something like a Thermapen, which is guaranteed to be accurate & comes with a certificate.
