Bwahahaha! I get the same cringe watching people put ketchup on bratwurst and hot dogs. In Chicago or anywhere in Wisconsin you’d go to jail for that.
I was raised in Iowa and my Mom is from Chicago. Growing up, she let everyone know about her strong anti-ketchup position on Brats, sausages, or hotdogs. I get that same cringe now and for some reason have picked up her same lecturing tone when I see it! But hey, if Clint Eastwood is with us then who could be against us?

That’s hilarious. I’m not messing with your mom, either! She’s right.

tallbm tallbm I’ve never heard of charro beans but I’m very interested. Do you have a favorite recipe and technique?

Charro beans are awesome! Basically some onions, tomato, jalapenos, a little bacon, ground Cumin seasoning and some cured little bit of meat, etc. in a pot of Pinto or Black Beans and you are in bean heaven!

Here is a post I did for charro beans but using black soybeans. Use Pinto or regular Black Beans instead of the soybeans and you are good to go.
Also you can sub out the pico de gallo for a can of diced tomato and chiles as well and it is good to go.

You won't be dissapointed. Enjoy!

Thanks. I’m looking forward to trying those. Beans in a can are not always my thing, although I do use them. So I love using dried beans (soy beans) whenever I can.
Once nice thing about beans this way is that you can buy pinto or black beans in the can and then throw them in a pot and turn them into charro beans very easily. You basically cook in all the flavor you want to transform those mediocre flavor canned beans into the amazing flavor beans you are looking for :)

This would be an easy way for you to dip your toe into the water to give the dish a try!
IMPORTANT: Stick with pinto or black beans in the can. Kidney beans, or butter beans, or navy beans may not give you the flavor you expect :)
