I was wondering what anyone else thought about this idea? Between my firebox and the main base I get a gap when it
s heated up. I really can't afford anything else, and I am not sure what to use or where to find something. What I was thinking is taking some heavy duty Aluminum foil (I have a huge roll from Sam's Club), rolling it into a rod shape Like rolling clay into a worm), and putting it between the to like a gasket. Does anyone else think this might work okay, at least temporarily?

Where are the best place(s) to find stuff to fix smokers, especial for gaskets? I've been having a tough time finding anything, not sure if I am looking in the wrong places, for the wrong thing, or what?

Depending on your needs, in this case, some type of gasket seal, I would try your local hardware store first. Then I would move on to Lowes, Homedepo or maybe even Sears, although I don't hold out much luck for the neighborhood Sears. I am in the city & don't know exactyl where you are in Kansas but that is where I would hunt. Good luck.

I just did a search on where you are located & you have several places to hunt. Check this link: http://maps.google.com/maps?q=Bonner...ed=0CAwQ8gEwAA

Click on "Search Nearby" & enter Hardware stores. Should be gold.

I checked most of the westlakes/ace, homedept, and lowes, but just wasn't sure exactly what to look for, especially since I have to consider getting something food safe. I forgot about the farm store we have here, I might be able to find something there too maybe.
I have to do alot to it actually, it also pours smoke out around the lid's sides and back, the door on the fire box has gotten really hot and needs replace, and I need to make a charcoal bacsket, because the last time I used it I got the firebox so hot it badly warped the charcoal rack, and I am wanting to make some kind of removable upper rack to replace the one that came with it. I like using the upper rack especially when I am smoke/grilling, but it takes too much space and gets in the way if I want to smoke a larger piece of meat.

Try a stove and fireplace shop also. You can make (or have made) a new shelf out of expanded metal and angle iron if you know how to weld or know someone who does. You can get expanded metal and angle iron at home depot. (It'd be a good excuse to get a welder, too, lol!).

Hey, go to westlake in Shawnee at shawnee mission pky in the wood stove area.

For the fire box where there is no movement, like a crack and get the gasket cement. It sets up like concrete but it comes out of a caulking tube.

For a door seal get the gray gasket rope and a tube of the black rtv silisone sealant, Rutland brand. 500 degree high heat rtv.

I have used this two ways

1. open the doors apply a large bead, say 1/2".
stick painters tabe on the door where the gasket would be.
let the rtv set for about 30 minutes
then close the enough for it to latch, but not to tight
this will let the bead smash and form to any high or low spots
but it will still squish and make a good seal when its totally set
2. buy the gray rope
place a small bead right where you want the rope
lay the rope in place and shut the door tight

I have this silicone around my smoke stack and its right on top of my firebox on a reverse flow. It is still flexable and sealed well after like 10 cooks.

Seems alot of this stuff is seasonal, I've been to lowes in Shawnee, and Gladstone, home depot, in Shawnee, and Westlakes in shawnee, and leavonworth.
I am kind of disappointed with this smoker, and frustrated. I have been thinking I should have tried to find a verticle one instead, but most of what I have seen, don't look big enough for how I like to cook. I am hoping when/if we ever get our tax refund, I will be able to find a good deal on a pull behind that has the offset with racks above the firebox.
