Temp Problem on a Brinkmann Charcoal Smoker

If anyone has some ideas or tips to keep the temp up on a box charcoal smoker, I am all EARS!!! I can get it to about 190 to 195 and thats it no matter if I change Charcoal brands.

Are you using briquette or lump, or have you tried both?  If you haven't tried lump, it burns hotter.

How much charcoal are you using....  are the vents wide open, top and bottom...  Is your thermometer calibrated in boiling water...   are you using a water pan with water in it...  (don't).....
