This was our Easter meal but a glimpse of days gone by. With everything going on lately I came up with this idea to bring back some happy memories for dad. First a little history...we live in the house dad grew up in, mom and dad moved out in 68, then grandma and my aunt lived here until 77 when grandma passed. Then sat unoccupied for about 20 years when my wife and I decided to renovate it. Dad had said in the past grandma always made fried chicken, mashed taters with homemade egg noodles on top, and gravy made with the water from the noodles.
Now this was all my wife's cooking, she gets all the credit, I was working in the shop and doing chores. We don't eat much fried food so oven baked chicken, soaked in buttermilk overnight then two types of breading, oven bake and corn flakes
Being since I wasn't around not much for prep pics. The oven bake done
Mashed taters and gravy, gravy was made with chicken bouillon, flour and chicken stock. Now grandma used water from making noodles for her gravy but didn't make the noodles from scratch so thus the change. And didn't get a pic of noodles till on my plate.
And of course some of our frozen sweet corn from last summer
And on the side some home canned pears from our tree
My plate
I should have had two drumsticks so I could have tried both, but no room after this plateful. This was the cornflake breading.
And for dessert homemade brownies
There was another side also, and I put it last because we forgot all about it till after my dad and brother were gone, ooopppss, deviled eggs
Needless to say I was stuffed! But it was oh so good! As a side note I did ask my wife if we should use the Christmas plates, since it looked more like Christmas than Easter
Somewhat protected from our grove but it usually looks like this
Thanks for looking! And I thank my wife for such a wonderful meal!
