Before we do something crazy....We have a BGE and want to smoke today...however it's -20 outside today. Will I crack the BGE in this cold weather? WE are very new to smoking. Thanks
Hi, I don't own one, but was looking up your question and found a bge site (eggheadforum). There were lots of posts of owners using their grills in below zero temps. One said it was 35 below and grill worked fine. You might want to check that site out and read all the comments by actual owners. Sounds like you should be ok to grill the way they talk.
You should be okay. As with most any ceramic, it might not be a great idea to super heat it too rapidly; give it a bit to warm up and then increase the heat.
BGEs are known to suffer from the lid freezing closed in frigid weather because of the two felt rings. This happened to me once in 5°F temps. The easy solution is to just drop one or two fire starter cubes or sticks down the top vent. After tem minutes or so, the lid will warm enough to allow opening without damaging the felt.
